Theater Releases for April 20th
It’s Friday and for all you loyal movie fans, that means you have a chance to see a bunch of new flicks. If you haven’t noticed by now, I pretty much only write about movies. So tune in every Tuesday for DVD releases and Friday for theater releases. Alright, here we go.

The best movie about snuff films since Cage’s 8MM
Vacancy – Luke Wilson and Kate Beckinsale are riding along all hunky dory until their car breaks down. They stay at a creepy motel for the night. They find a video tape of a “snuff film” which is basically a porno where the girls are killed in the end. They realize every tape is filmed in THEIR ROOM!!! So now they freak out and have to find a way out of this MADNESS! Gotta tell ya, I think it looks creepy and cool. Unique horror movie idea for a change in a slasher-chases-teens world we live in today.

I killed my wife with some fava beans and a nice chiante. Slurpy Slurp.
Fracture – Anthony Hopkins allegedly kills his wife. But he’s a smart dude and is somehow evading conviction. Ryan Gosling is the DA trying to bring him down. This movie isn’t getting all that much press and I don’t think it has the interesting trailer to bring people into the theaters.

Here come the Fuzz. DON’T STOP ME NOWWWWW!
Hot Fuzz – from Edgar Wright who brought you Shaun of the Dead. This time the same 2 lead characters, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, are cop partners in a quiet town. Pegg is all business, and Frost is a fat joke. Then murders start occurring and they are put on the case. Look for ridiculous action mixed with comedy. Think what Shaun of the Dead did for horror comedy, this will try to do with action comedy.

I’ll say something sarcastic and then you laugh, ok?
In the Land of Women – reminds me of Garden State but now with that kid from The OC. Adam Brody comes back to his hometown after being dumped and meets a young girl who shows him around. He has a life rediscovery and I’m sure non-funny sarcastic jokes happen and loads of lovey dovey stuff. Zzzzzzzzz
If you’re looking for laughs then Hot Fuzz is your best bet. Shaun of the Dead was a dynamite horror-comedy and I’m looking for the same to happen with action-comedy now. I might be checking it out tonight so check the Smorgas Board later on or sometime tomorrow for the write up. If comedy isn’t what you’re looking for then I’m sure Vacancy will provide some decent thrilling scares. It depends on your mood I guess.
This post contains a more than necessary Nicolas Cage reference.
