IGN stinks at video games
The name of the following video is called “Owning Glass Joe” and was posted in IGN’s review of Punch Out!! for the Wii Virtual Console.
That is the worst “owning” of Glass Joe I have ever seen in my life. Instead of knocking Joe on his ass when he comes in after his little taunt, they wait for him, dodge his punch, and then I guess proceed to “own” him. No guys, you nail Glass Joe right in the face when he slides in and he falls over in one swoop. They didn’t even try. That’s fine that you don’t know how to knock out Glass Joe, but don’t go around naming your video “Owning Glass Joe.”

That is when you pop Joe right in the mouth
Which reminded me of an article that IGN wrote up a few weeks ago, “Top 10 Toughest Games to Beat.” Their number one game is the original Contra. IGN writes, “Contra is virtually impossible to beat without entering the Konami code — and even then, there’s a good chance Mad Dog and Scorpion won’t make it to their showdown with Red Falcon.” Contra is virtually impossible to beat if you’re drunk and have no thumbs. I could beat Contra with three men back when I was in grade school.
Their number 2 game is the original Mega Man. The reason, “In (the) original, you can neither slide nor charge your Mega Buster. The energy tanks that appeared in later games were also lacking, making for frequent deaths.” Are you kidding me? The original Mega Man wasn’t even designed around sliding or using the mega buster, so it’s not even a factor. Having the option to slide will not make Mega Man any easier. I recieved the original Mega Man as a gift for my birthday after having finished both Mega Man 2 and 3 and I beat it the first night I had it. It was the easiest Mega Man out of the three. (Can you believe there was a time when only 3 Mega Man games existed?) Years later when I bought the Mega Man Collection, I stayed home sick from work and beat the game in one sitting, in an hour and a half.
I’m not saying I’m awesome and amazing at video games (I get murdered online, and my nephews are starting to hand my ass to me) but these guys are supposed to know what “owning” and hard games are all about. The rest of their list isn’t nearly as embarrasing as stuff like Battletoads and Super Ghouls ‘N Ghosts belong there.
The bottom line is, this video coupled with their Top 10 hardest games list leads me to believe that the people at IGN suck at video games. It’s not going to change the world, or ruin anyones day, but I thought I’d throw it out there.
